Three design directions for Study Hall, an educational card game, teaching computer science students about the principles of environmental justice in technology.
I was contracted by Rooted Futures Lab after my Environmental Justice in Technology fellowship with them to work on this project. The first design direction is the one that ended up being used. We were tasked to create a card design that would be easily printable by students, in an A4 size. The students would not be familiar with environmental justice, and so the design had to be approachable and exciting. I included a black and white & color version for each card. Another challenge was including a visual into the cards without having the time to create 20 different illustrations for each individual card. I worked around this by editing stock images, allowing for a low-effort visual that could help illustrate the different scenarios on each card.
